Flamingo Quilt Work In Progress

Hi Ladies, I apologize for the delay in not posting, but due to bad weather and a few previous commitments for the last couple of days, I didn't get the chance to post the progress of my Flamingo quilt.
This quilt was started several years back by my mom.One day she was sorting through a few things and came across the quilt and asked if I would be interested in finishing the quilt for the Quilting Inspirations Gallery of our upcoming Winter/Spring 2018 Issue of Our Quilting Journey Magazine. Once I took a look at the quilt I said yes that I would love to finish it off for her as I had a couple of ideas for the quilting in mind, but first I had to finish off the quilting on the Blue Heron Quilt that will be on the cover of that issue.
A couple of weeks ago, after Hurricane Irma passed us, and after I completed the Blue Heron Quilt that turned out really beautiful, I was able to start putting the rest of this quilt together by first fusing the palm trees and the small bushes to the background as the flamingo was already attached. Once I finished that I was able to add the borders and get the quilt prepared for the quilting. I first started the quilting on the large palm tree on the far right of  the quilt  by using a combination of several shades of green threads and by doing a free motion feather stitch to give the palm leaves some dimension. When  I was done doing the feather stitching,I outlined the entire edge of the palm leaves in a small satin stitch.(My mom was the one who did the entire thread painting on the truck of this palm tree before I fused the piece to the quilt top.)

After I finished quilting the large palm tree,I proceeded to move onto the sand and outlining the bushes and small grasses. Most of the quilting on the sand is a small stipple, except for close to the water and near the flamingo's feet where I did a free motion zigzag stitch in a darker shade of tan machine embroidery thread to make the sand look after the waves have pulled back. Now that the sand is all finished, I'm currently working on the ocean waves by doing a calm sea free motion design along with working on outlining the bird. I should be all finished with the water scene in the first part of next week and then I start the quilting on the sky,but first my mom and I are having an all sewing weekend where we are working on finishing off some Christmas dolls that we started a while back.
Quilter's Notes & Tidbits: My Road to Ohio Stars Table Runner Version 1 will be available on my blog along with Craftsy and Pattern Spot beginning this coming Monday, October 9,2017. Until then.Have a creative day and a great weekend.Happy Quilting.Hugs Katie

Crazy Quilt Along on Quilting Around The World

Hi All!
One of the many things I was working on this past summer is a Special/Secret Projects for the members of the group Quilting Around The World for the early part of Fall.
Back in the end of August I got to reveal the project after giving the members daily clues for a total of 14 days that it would be a Crazy Quilt Along starting on September 1,2017.

The quilt along would be a total of (5) 12'' finished hexagons and (2) half hexagon blocks with the finished size of the project being approx. 34'' x 24 3/4''.Participants for this quilt along could make their blocks in other color theme or fabric selection that they chose. My blocks will all be in various shades of blue fabrics as my theme will be ''The Night Before Christmas'' outdoor scene. So far I already have my first block put together and it's just now waiting on me to start embellishing it with the seam treatments and embroideries that I have decided.
Even though the Crazy Quilt Along just started a month ago fellow quilters can still join in on all of the fun at any time. To learn more please visit http://quiltingaroundtheworld.com/forum/yaf_postst8487_Crazy-Quilt-Along-Hosted-By-Katie-Bock.aspx
